The advantages of using laminate stator core

Laminations are the steel portions of the stator and rotor consisting of thin lamination sheets stacked together. These laminations can be stacked "loose", welded, or bonded together depending on your application. Laminations sheets are used instead of a solid pice to reduce eddy current losses and Cools the Stator Core.
Reduces Eddy Current
The electromagnetic field of a stator core generates a voltage, called an eddy current.
Often this current results in power loss and diminished performance. How much loss depends on several factors including frequency of EMF and density of magnetic flux.
Stator laminations reduce eddy current by insulating the core. Thin silicon steel plates are stacked on top of one another around the center, preventing eddy current flow.
With the eddy current reduced, the stator core can maintain constant power, keeping your motor running.
Cools the Stator Core
Heat often follows eddy current production. A solid piece of iron would not only emit large eddy currents, but the core would be hotter than Florida in the summertime.
That amount of heat is enough to melt the core entirely.
By laminating the stator, you reduce the eddy current and the heat it generates.
Cooling the core simplifies down to pumping air or hydrogen across the core structure.
Reduces Hysteresis Loss
The electromagnetic field created by the rotating stator magnetizes the iron core. However, these effects don`t happen at the same time.
The magnetization lags behind the field creation, a phenomenon known as hysterisis.
When you eliminate the magnetic field (i.e., shut the engine off), the iron will slowly demagnetize.
Toggling back and forth between magnetization and demagnetization creates a loop. The bigger the loop, the more energy it takes to magnetize and demagnetize the core.
What does all this science have to do with stator laminations?
Well, when the core generates heat, it loses hysteresis. This loss wastes energy and forces the motor to consume more power to function.
Lamination plates have narrow hysteresis loops, requiring less energy to magnetize and demagnetize the core.
In layman`s terms, laminating the stators makes the motor more efficient.
